lose the hypocricy
Apparently, a Bahraini national has been stripped of his nationality for taking part in an athletic competition in 'Israel' (please see links).
Such things happen in most of the GCC countries since none of them have any diplomatic ties with 'Israel'; or so it would appear. Which is quite sad, since most of these countries secretly take on trade agreements with the Jewish state behind everyone's back, never to announce it, and when all is exposed they break it up over the outcry of their population on how Palestinians are suffering in their occupied lands and how no one is lending a helping hand to them instead.
For instance, you have the Sultanate of Oman who had a trade office in one of the local 5 star hotels a long time back until they closed it down under the excuse of the escalating situation in Palestine along with postponing Muscat Festival back then, too. Saudi Arabia, surprisingly, has one of its members going behind the scenes trying to make things move along for the sake of 'peace in the Middle East'. I don't know about the other GCC countries; but it seems that the state of Qatar is the only country that is open about supporting both the 'Israeli' and Palestine cause by talking very freely about the subject and asking other GCC countries to follow in it's stride.
What is annoying is the fact that the GCC countries bitch about not having any sort of ties with any Jewish establishment or department of state but then again they import all the businesses that have an enormous Jewish shareholding turn-out, like Pepsi, Starbucks, Coca Cola, and even the service based product that we have come to depend on in our daily lives in areas of telecommunications such as the Internet.
All I am trying to say is that I'd like to see us stay on one path and not change it from time to time because of stupid politics in the region or world over. And another thing, the citizen/national/resident shouldn't have to pay for mistakes that the country makes in it's own political matters.

- Bahrain athlete loses citizenship

I am conflicted over the decision to strip him of his nationality. If I had to make the decision I would have done the same and send him back to Kenya simply as a symbolic gesture. As an international athlete and a Bahraini national he is not just an ambassador for Bahrain but also for the rest of the GCC and so should have been more responsible.
However there is that bigger picture with all the support GCC countries indirectly give to Israel through business links via multinationals etc. It is not enough to just complain about Zionist attacks against the Palestinians and putting a black marker over Israel on the map… but what is needed is to make a concerted effort to challenge Israel economically and politically. Thus within that context, it is unfair that Mushir Salem Jawher should loose his citizenship.
Yahya:
Which is exactly my point through this post.
I dont understand Mr Jawher. Was him or any of his friends and collegues just plain ignorant about Bahrain's position with Israel? Strange.
I think its good that he got deported. Really the guy must be an idiot if he didnt know what he was doing.

It's just posturing - the issue is that the "Palestinian cause" is a very useful rallying tool and a way of diverting people's attention.
Any government wanting to divert criticism/attention only has to start wailing about the Palestinian cause and Arab brotherhood and instantly all its population are behind it.
But as we all know, apart from some charitable donations that governments here can easily afford, politically and military speaking, they do absolutely fuck all for Palestine. I've been here five years now, and I can't remember one instance of an Arab government giving military support to Palestine (or Lebanon for that matter), nor even visiting Palestine or making an effort to support its fledgling government.
Their sense of "brotherhood" extends as far as bitching and wailing about the Israelis and Washington; god forbid they actually get their hands dirty.

I think Shk Zayed donated money to build hospitals in palestine or lebanon. I think.
SD .. alot of giving happens - but its all under the table.. in direct (logistical) or indirect( Cash, aid ..etc) forms
or else where do you think they get their weapons from..

Oh quite! No doubt about that. But what might actually help the Palestinians is more public pressure. Governments here are far too ready to cave to America every single time.

I know - I mentioned charitable donations. But there hasn't been any (overt) miltary support. Even when Israel has done something deemed illegal by the UN, such as the partition wall, the "brotherhood" does nothing. Even though one might argue intervention was legally warranted.
The GCC cant do anything to challenge Israel, so all we have left is symobolic gestures...so i still think it was good that the Kenyan should be de-naturalized and sent back to Kenya.
